ESG, Sustainbaility Report & CSRD (Copy)

This lesson introduces participants to the fundamentals of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and its growing importance in building resilient, sustainable, and investment-ready businesses. As global markets, investors, and customers increasingly demand greater transparency and responsible business practices, understanding ESG has become essential for businesses seeking long-term growth and competitiveness.

Participants will explore the three pillars of ESG and learn how to identify practical indicators that are relevant to their own businesses. The session will also introduce internationally recognized reporting frameworks, including Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, with a focus on GRI 306 (Waste) and GRI 401 (Employment), helping participants understand what data should be collected and how to monitor it effectively.

The lesson will further examine the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and its implications for Zambian businesses, particularly those exporting products or supplying international markets. Through practical exercises, participants will assess their current ESG performance, identify priority improvement areas, and develop a simple ESG data collection plan that can be integrated into their day-to-day business operations.

By the end of the session, participants will have a practical understanding of ESG principles and the tools needed to begin measuring, reporting, and improving their environmental, social, and governance performance, strengthening both their sustainability impact and investment readiness.
