Sustainability Reporting: GRI, CSRD & SDG Alignment

This lesson equips Zambian SMEs with the practical skills to measure, document and communicate their sustainability performance. Participants will be introduced to the GRI Standards and learn how to prepare a basic sustainability disclosure that captures their environmental, social and business impacts. The lesson will also explore the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and how sustainability reporting requirements may affect Zambian businesses participating in EU supply chains.

Participants will learn how to connect their circular economy activities to Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), establish a simple sustainability data collection system using available staff and tools, and accurately report progress against key sustainability metrics. Practical exercises will include completing a GREENTech4CE progress report template using relevant business data.

By the end of the lesson, participants will be able to:

• Apply GRI Standards to prepare a basic sustainability disclosure for a Zambian SME.
• Understand CSRD requirements and their potential relevance to Zambian businesses in EU supply chains.
• Map circular economy activities and outputs to relevant SDG 12 indicators.
• Design a practical sustainability data collection system using available tools and staff capacity.
• Complete a GREENTech4CE progress report using accurate and relevant sustainability metrics.
